The National Health Council has just released a new study through their “Putting Patients First” project which looks at the customer experience in the ACA marketplaces for those individuals who have chronic conditions. Prior to the Affordable Care Act (ACA), individuals with chronic conditions were usually shut out of the health insurance market as they were denied coverage due to pre-existing conditions. The ACA now prohibits insurance carriers from such discriminatory practices and helping these individuals get coverage was a huge part of the ACA. So knowing how these consumers are faring in the new marketplace is a very interesting topic as to the actual effectiveness of the ACA.
