Yesterday, HHS released a breakdown of how the Affordable Care Act (ACA) has had an impact on a state-by-state basis in all areas of coverage, including employer-based coverage, the individual market, Medicare and Medicaid. The data includes the fact that 20 million people have obtained coverage due to the ACA, but the ACA protections do not end with the new coverage available through the health insurance marketplace. Those that have plans through employer-sponsored coverage also benefit from the fact that the ACA prohibits annual and lifetime monetary caps, expands coverage to young adults up to age 26 on their parent’s plan and provides for free preventive care. The details on how all of this benefits the residents in various states is available in the HHS report.
