OE8 IS JUST 15 DAYS AWAY
In just over two weeks, Open Enrollment Year 8 (OE8) will begin. If you will be planning on assisting consumers with disabilities throughout OE8, we want to make sure you have the resources you need to be able to assist individuals with disabilities as they consider their options on the ACA marketplace. We have a Disability Guide which is meant to strengthen disability literacy, help you identify and provide appropriate accommodations and assist you in correctly identifying issues that are central to healthcare insurance for people with disabilities. The disability guide is also available for PDF download.
In advance of OE8, the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP) is conducting its nine-part Health Reform: Beyond the Basics webinar series. This webinar series provides technical assistance to navigators and other health insurance enrollment assisters and is designed to provide training in advance of OE8. Next Thursday, October 22, at 2:00 PM ET, we will be presenting as part of this webinar series on “Best Practices When Assisting People with Disabilities.” Registration for that webinar is open.
Last Thursday, CBPP continued the webinar series with a webinar which addressed the topic “Auto-Renewal Process”. The slides and video recording can be found in our news item along with a complete list of the topics, dates and times of the scheduled webinars and links to register for them.
Are you looking for resources to help with outreach for the upcoming OE8? The National Center for Health Physical Activity and Disability (NCHPAD) is conducting two surveys. The first survey is to gather information about the needs of parents of students with disabilities around schooling during the current COVID-19 health situation. This survey will help us understand the needs of parents of students with disabilities who receive services through schools. This survey closes TODAY! To complete this survey, go to this link.
The second NCHPAD survey is to gather information from administrators about the needs of their school’s adapted physical education program. This survey will help us to create resources, training, and other materials that are specific to the administrator’s needs to support inclusive programs. This survey closes Nov. 2nd. To complete this survey, go to this link.
The Kaiser Family Foundation recently released their annual survey of employer health benefits. To learn more about the survey or for a link to it, check out our news item.
The past few weeks we have highlighted several resources related to the upcoming case of California v. Texas which will be heard by the Supreme Court in November. A recent blog post by the Center for American Progress highlights how repealing the ACA could cause problems for people with disabilities. Additionally, a blog post by the Georgetown University Center on Health Insurance Reforms (CHIR) examines what health insurance looked like for people with pre-existing conditions prior to the ACA.
Another blog post from the CHIR examines a new report that they just authored looking at the increased rates of uninsurance for children as the rate of uninsurance among children has gone up to 5.7% in 2019 – up from a historic low of 4.7% in 2016.
