OE8 BEGINS IN 8 DAYS
In just eight days, Open Enrollment Year 8 (OE8) will begin. If you plan on assisting consumers with disabilities during OE8, we want to make sure you have the resources you need to be able to assist them as they consider their options on the ACA marketplace. Last week we highlighted our Disability Guide which is meant to strengthen disability literacy and help you identify issues that are central to health insurance for people with disabilities. The Guide is further supplemented by our fact sheets which cover a variety of topical areas that are unique to people with disabilities such as rehabilitation and habilitation services and devices, prescription medication benefits, medical supplies and disability etiquette, among others. We also have a set of population specific fact sheets which answers questions on how to assist consumers with various disabilities.
If you’re wondering what could potentially be new for OE8, the Georgetown University Center on Health Insurance Reforms (CHIR) has a blog post which breaks down a lot of the different issues which set this particular open enrollment period apart from others. Additionally, if you are looking for a comprehensive tool to provide guidance as you conduct enrollment assistance, check out the CHIR Navigator Resource Guide.
In advance of OE8, the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP) conducted its nine-part Health Reform: Beyond the Basics webinar series. This webinar series provides technical assistance to navigators and other health insurance enrollment assisters and is designed to provide training in advance of OE8. Yesterday, we concluded the webinar series with a presentation on “Best Practices When Assisting People with Disabilities.” The slides and video recording are now available for that webinar.
Last Thursday, they continued the webinar series with a webinar which addressed “Special Topics on Assisting Immigrants and Their Families”. The slides and video recordings for this and the other webinars in the series can be found in our news item.
Are you looking for resources to help with outreach for the upcoming OE8? AAHD is once again working with Community Catalyst and other partners in conducting outreach to educate individuals about the ACA Marketplace. This outreach includes graphics like the one to the right which count down to the start of the upcoming open enrollment. These graphics are available in the Community Catalyst Outreach Hub.
If you’re looking for outreach materials related to COVID-19 and special enrollment periods, check out the COVID-19 messaging guide from Community Catalyst.
This week, the Kaiser Family Foundation conducted a webinar which looked at the potential affect the COVID-19 pandemic could have on the ACA marketplaces in 2021. A recording of the webinar is available on the Kaiser website and you can also download the slides.
The past few weeks we have highlighted several resources related to the upcoming case of California v. Texas which will be heard by the Supreme Court in November. This week, CBPP has a blog post which examines what the Supreme Court case could mean for Medicaid expansion. Additionally, they have a chart book of infographics which highlight the benefits of the ACA Medicaid expansion.
The Kaiser Family Foundation also has a new report which examines the number of people with pre-existing conditions that are covered by Medicaid.
Archives of our weekly updates are available on the NDNRC website.
