A new report from the Kaiser Family Foundation looks at how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected health insurance coverage. The report entitled “How Has the Pandemic Affected Health Coverage in the U.S.?” shows that employer-based coverage did drop as a result of the pandemic, but this may have been offset by increases in coverage through the ACA marketplace and Medicaid. In fact, Kaiser estimates about 2-3 million people lost employer-based coverage, but enrollment in Medicaid over the same time increased by 4.3 million people. As a result, it does not appear there was any change in the uninsured rate over the course of the pandemic.
