Open Enrollment Year Nine (OE9) concluded in most states this past Saturday, but that does not mean that individuals still can’t enroll. Individuals who go through major life changes can qualify for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP). SEPs are available to individuals who experience one of the following events:
- Birth
- Divorce/death
- Domestic violence
- Loss of coverage
- Marriage
- Moving
- Change in immigration status
- Aging off a parent’s plan
- Release from incarceration
If an individual does experience one of these events, a SEP is available to them for 60 days after the event occurs. Additionally, if someone is eligible for Medicaid, that enrollment goes year-round and there are no time limits for someone to apply for Medicaid.
