NDNRC is Now on YouTube
The NDNRC now has its own YouTube channel. This channel will be used to archive webinar recordings as well as include other helpful videos that navigators and assisters can use in better understanding the needs of consumers with disabilities as they are considering their enrollment options. The NDNRC YouTube channel can be accessed by clicking here. Please check it out and subscribe!
The first video on our channel is an archived webinar we presented on January 15, 2015 featuring Taryn Mackenzie Williams, Associate Director for the Office of Public Engagement at the White House. This video can be accessed by clicking here. If you just want to view the slides for this or any other webinar we’ve done, check out our webinar archives by clicking here.
This week we added resources from our NDNRC Friend organization, Mental Health America which we believe could be helpful to navigators in explaining health insurance to consumers. Their fact sheet on “How Insurance Works” explains the basics of insurance, including what’s covered, what co-pays and deductibles are and what a network is. Their fact sheet on “How to Use Health Insurance” provides helpful tips for consumers on topics such as finding a provider, the difference between primary and emergency care and keeping track of insurance information. Both of these fact sheets are available as brochures in multiple languages, including Spanish, French, Arabic, Amharic, Chinese and Vietnamese. Links for both of these fact sheets as well as a link to Mental Health America’s webpage guide to health insurance can be accessed through our blog by clicking here. These links are also available on our Resources & Links page under “Enrollment Resources – Mental Health and Behavioral Health” and “Enrollment Resources – Overview.”
In case you missed it, last week we released a new topical fact sheet entitled “Disability Etiquette – Tips for Interacting with People with Disabilities.” That fact sheet can be found here. The entire list of fact sheets (along with upcoming fact sheets) is also available here.
Are you a numbers nerd and looking for motivation to continue to educate consumers on the availability of financial assistance? Be sure to check out the report released yesterday by the Kaiser Family Foundation on their survey of uninsured adults. The statistics in the report underscore the need to still educate consumers about what is available for them and debunk the myths of unaffordable coverage. To read our news story on the report, which includes a link to download a copy of the report, click here.
Are you looking for local partners to help with outreach to the disability community? The NDNRC has funded eleven Community Outreach Collaboratives (COCs) for the second year of enrollment. The COCs will increase collaborations in the community, dissemination and outreach efforts and enrollment of people with disabilities in the ACA. To find a COC, click here.
