As we reported before, CMS has been changing the ease with which a consumer can obtain a Special Enrollment Period (SEP). Earlier this month, they announced the elimination of seven SEPs and this week they’ve announced a new confirmation process where consumers will need to demonstrate they are eligible for the SEP. This is in response to criticism that consumer eligibility for SEPs has gone widely unchecked. To read about CMS’s new confirmation process for SEPs, read their fact sheet by clicking here. They’ve also written about it on their CMS blog here.
