Today, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released a report this week which outlines how repealing the Affordable Care Act (ACA) would affect the coverage of the millions of Americans who are currently enrolled through the ACA and how it could affect health insurance premiums in the individual market as a whole. Some of the key findings include:
- Tens of millions would lose health care, quickly:
- 18 million more uninsured in the first plan year after repeal
- This would increase to 27 million after repeal of subsidies and Medicaid expansion
- 32 million more uninsured by 2026
- Premiums in the individual market would increase dramatically:
- 20-25% increase in the first plan year after repeal
- 50% increase after the elimination of marketplace subsidies and Medicaid expansion
- “Premiums would about double by 2026.”
