Last week, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released guidance on how Special Enrollment Periods (SEPs) will be extended for those individuals who have been affected by the recent hurricanes. This will apply to any individual who lives in a county designated by FEMA as needing assistance and who became eligible for an SEP within the 60 days prior to the hurricane or subsequent to it. These individuals will be given an extended SEP which will last through the end of the year. CMS is also waiving some of the SEP verification requirements for these individuals.
