April Is Medicaid Awareness Month

April 1, 2022 by NDNRC

A young blind woman in a classroom, shown using her phone with message "For Me, Having Health Insurance Through Medicaid Means Peace of Mind."Today starts the beginning of Medicaid Awareness Month. Throughout the month, we will be highlighting the importance that Medicaid plays in the lives of people with disabilities. Next week, we plan to release our updated Medicaid social media toolkit and we will also be co-hosting a Twitter chat on April 19 at 3 PM ET with Young Invincibles to highlight the importance of the Medicaid program. Follow along with these hashtags: #TodaysVoicesTues and #MedicaidMatters.

To show how important the Medicaid program is for people with disabilities, here are some interesting facts:

  • Approximately 1 in 5 Americans are covered by Medicaid and one out of every three children are covered by Medicaid/CHIP.
  • Over 10 million people qualify for Medicaid based on disability.
  • 45% of nonelderly adults with disability receive their coverage through Medicaid.
  • Medicaid is the largest funder of long-term care in the country.

Join us throughout the month in helping us celebrate the Medicaid program and how important it is for people with disabilities. You can follow our social media channels or check out our Linktree to learn more:
