Medicaid Enrollment Up as a Result of COVID-19

June 4, 2020 by NDNRC

A new report from the National Academy on State Health Policy (NASHP) indicates that Medicaid enrollment has increased since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. In a post on the NASHP blog, they detail increase enrollment trends in Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Hawaii, Michigan, New Jersey, New Mexico, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania and Virginia. The blog also cites a previous report from the Kaiser Family Foundation which we reported on previously (see news item) which estimated that 27 million people may have lost their employer-based coverage as a result of a COVID-19 lay off and that 12.7 million of those individuals would be eligible for coverage through Medicaid.
