A new issue brief from the Kaiser Family Foundation examines the role Medicaid plays in providing care for children with special health care needs. The brief is entitled “Medicaid’s Role for Children with Special Health Care Needs: A Look at Eligibility, Services, and Spending.” According to the brief, there were 14.2 million children with special health care needs in 2016 and 48% of them received coverage through Medicaid/CHIP. The brief also includes a state-by-state breakdown showing how many children with special health care needs live in each state and what percentage rely on Medicaid for their coverage.
